TARA is a non-profit state association representing the Texas rent-to-own industry before the Texas Legislature and the various state agencies affecting the industry. TARA promotes RTO businesses and participates in the development of public policies that enhance the Texas rent-to-own industry.
The 85th Texas Legislature will convene in Austin on January 10, 2017. Currently, the association is monitoring hearings in the House and Senate on the interim charges issued late last year by the Speaker Straus and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. Many of the interim charges pertain to taxes and business regulations.
In recent years, several bills affecting the rent-to-own industry in Texas have been passed by the Texas Legislature and enacted into law. These included clarification of the state's franchise tax on RTO operations, repeal of the state's bedding laws, and elimination of Loss Damage Waiver approval by TDLR.
Membership in TARA is open to all RTO businesses operating in Texas and to those companies who provide services to them. To join, simply complete the membership application provided in the link below and forward it to TARA. Do your part to protect the Texas RTO industry. Join today!
